How do you look after you?

09/05/2024 - Category: default

At our recent meeting in Crediton, Emma Healey of Way To Fitness & Shine Brighter Coaching delivered an interactive & informative presentation on “How do you look after you?”

What we eat and drink, how we move, how we manage our stress and how we sleep can have a big impact on our physical and mental health.

Everyone listed what they currently do to look after themselves … then made a second list of might be good to try! Often we know what would be good for us but are too busy to change our habits.

How about considering some of these top tips and suggestions ?

  • What activities or exercise do you do regularly and what might you like to try in the future? When can you start?
  • Aim for 2-3 litres a day of water containing drinks, aiming to avoid as much sugar, caffeine and sweeteners as possible.
  • If you smoke or vape - can you cut down or stop?
  • Keep food choices colourful - eat the rainbow!
  • Check out the sizes of your portions - plate, bowl and glasses…
  • How do you manage stress? Pausing and taking a few deep breaths is a great start …
  • How do you sleep? What can you do to get more sleep and wake up feeling refreshed? Avoiding TV and devices at least an hour before bed can be helpful to reduce the blue light effect.
  • Consider setting some new boundaries if you often say yes but really mean no.
  • Factor in time off regularly to enjoy hobbies and time with friends or family.
  • Aim to eat less ultra processed foods and consider trying more meals from scratch. Tinned beans and pulses add fibre and texture and save time!
